Realising the financial stringency of the people of Orissa, Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the Nation persuaded mother Purubai Ben a famous lady of Gujurat and as per his advice PURUBAIJEE came to Orissa and established a Home at Soro for rendering social services in the year 1930. During the pre Independence period number of children and women became homeless, orphan, gradually the number increased and children came from all over the state. Receiving advice from Gandhi Seva Sangha, Wardha Sri Kapil Charan Das, Secretary Gandhi Orissa Balashram, Bhadrak managed this destitute home as sponsoring organisation. PURUBAI BEN being the founder member, continued till her death in this organisation.
